About me

You can find my CV here.

Academic career

I received my Master’s degree at the University of Helsinki in 2004. I had theoretical philosophy and mathematics as double majors and only in the final year decided to focus more on philosophy.

In 2009 I defended my Ph.D. thesis “Truth, Proof and Gödelian Arguments: a Defence of Tarskian Truth in Mathematics”, supervised by Professor Gabriel Sandu.

Since 2010 I have worked mostly at the University of Helsinki, but I’ve also been a visiting researcher at the University of Bucharest, the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (LMU München) and University of California, Irvine. I spent the spring of 2018 visiting the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation at the University of Amsterdam, working in Jakub Szymanik’s research group.

I received the title of docent (equivalent to habilitation) in theoretical philosophy at the University of Helsinki in 2017.

Currently I am working in the Käte Hamburger Kolleg (KHK) “Cultures of Research” at the RWTH University in Aachen, Germany.

Teaching

I am a qualified subject teacher in philosophy and mathematics, receiving my degree at the University of Helsinki in 2017.

I have taught the course “Introduction to Logic” at the University of Helsinki for many years, and again in the fall of 2019. In the spring of 2018, I taught (for the second time) the course “Modern philosophy of mathematics”. I can also teach epistemology, philosophy of science, and many other subjects on both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Other

I live in Aachen, Germany.

I am quite passionate about many things in life. I love literature, cinema and music. Good food and drink is an important hedonistic aspect of my life. I love fishing and spending time in nature, but mostly I am happy to enjoy the city life. I have a passion for football, both as a player and a spectator.

I am a semi-active blogger on politics, science, history, music, sport – you name it. Unfortunately the blog is in Finnish. That decision was due to an alarming realization that my writing ability in my mother tongue was deteriorating. So in order to practice, I started the blog. You can find it here.

I have a certified translator’s degree (Finnish-English-Finnish). I have mostly translated scientific and technical texts.
